Sorry, but it's the RW discs. RW discs are known to lose data or format. I personally no longer use RW discs because of this problem. It would appear an RW disc can be used like a floppy diskette for storage/temporary storage of data but it's not that simple. If you insist on using RW discs, do not have the only copy of data on it for when it does lose the data, have it backed up on a secure location somewhere.
Your issuse with having to use the System Restore is a separate issue. If you are using it often, you have to look at what you are doing to cause this. It's not always the "computer's fault". It can be what you are doing or some spyware, etc. However, as a part-time tech I find the System Restore an important tool in trouibleshooting and problem resolution. Also, any time I install software or do a software update, I manually set a Restore point before installing the software, just in case there is problems.
