Error on Hard disk boot scan

the following attached is the error i got when i did a bios scan on the hard disk...but I have no issues the hard disk works fine......the only problem though is when the windows 7 ultimate is booted it takes at least 3-4 minutes for the programs to work normally.......for example when I start the google chrome it wont show up for at least 1.2min and after that it opens but won't respond as I said it would at least take 3-4 minutes to work normally........

the other thing which I noticed is the right end of the laptop where the hard disk is located get pretty hot even at normal use(I mean surfing Internet).....any help on this would be very much appreciated .....My doubt is whether my hard disk is dying on me.......it's been an year and half since I got this laptop Dell N5050(i3,6gb,500HDD)

Note: I have disabled all the programs from the startup from msconfig so that is not the issue for the slowness

Danny,

Yes, you can replace the 500GB drive with anything up to 2TB. If you created a recovery disc, you can reload with that.

Hello,

I have the Dell 660 desktop purchased in December.  Had two hard drive problems, one in Feb and one recently,. My Error Message was 2001-1042.  Since my computer is still under warranty.  Dell is sending a technician to replace it. I had a Dell for 13 years without issue.  I am not impressed with Windows 8.  I think it causes more problems.

Hi Danny,

Your hard drive needs to be replaced. Only a year and a half old, I'm thinking you must still be under warranty. If so, contact Dell about a replacement hard drive.

Please be sure to BACK UP YOUR FILES!

It's up to you, but my recommendation is to back up your files and replace the drive.

It is simple. The self-test failed.  Replace the drive.  Just because you have "no issues" doesn't mean that you haven't seen any problems. The self-test does things like full ram ECC testing.    It also verifies that data is same as data written.
