FATAL SYSTEM ERROR ( I need some help)
HI! I was on my laptop (a dell inpriron 1520) the other day, and well, i accidentially dropped it.:smileysurprised: Now whenever i try to turn it on a blue screen comes up with this error message, and it doesn't do anything other than that:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager failed to create protected prefixes system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0x000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I spoke to someone about this and they said to re-install the operating system. I have the back-up disk with this on but i wouldn't know where to begin. I am a serious novice at doing anything technical with computers / laptops so this goes way over my head. I really need some advice and i'm hoping pposting on here will get me some.
Thanks!

You can use the quick restore to reload the OS - F8 before Windows loads.
Before you do so, if the system was powered on when it was dropped, run the extended test on the hard drive (F12 at powerup). There's a good chance the drive was damaged and needs to be replaced if it was spinning when the system was dropped.

ok, thanks, i ran the extended test and a couple of things came up. They each had an error code and i do not know if this will help but these were:
1) 2000-0148
2) 2000-0142
3) 0F00:0244
4) 0F00:1A44
After i had sone this i pressed F8 as you said at startup and it came up with a menu:
Repair Your Computer
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Promt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video (640x480)
Last known Good Configuration
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Diable automatic restart on sytem failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
From this menu i tried a few of the option, including 'Last known Good Configuration' and 'Repair Your Computer'. on each of these something seemed to be happening (a black screen came up with a small scrolling loading bar) but then after that a blue screen flashes up for a fraction of a second, then it reverts back to what it normally does with that error message. in that menu i couldnt find a qick restore so i tries the 'Directory Services Restore Mode". With this a long list of drivers load then it pasues saying 'loading...' but then it does the same thing and reverts back to the error message. Would all this mean that I need to replace the hard disk?
Thanks!

The hard drive has developed bad sectors and must be replaced. If you're under warranty, call Dell with the errors and request a pre-imaged replacement drive - that will save you several hours of reloading Windows.
If you are out of warranty, you can purchase drives from multiple sources. If you do not have a Windows CD and are in the US, you can order one; outside the US, call your local Dell office.
