Firmware upgrade
Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to upgrade to the lastest firmware release ( F506 ) for a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E drive, current version F501.
Samsungs flash utility(sfdnwin.exe) will not install the latest firmware because the OEM is Dell.
Thanks for the help.

If you enter "Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E" in the search field above, I guarantee you'll find it.
Samsung drives generally do fine with the manufacturer's firmware, so I'm surprised it didn't work. Do you have another optical drive by any chance? If so, you'll need to disable it in system setup or unplug it during the flash.

Yes I have other optical drives which I have now unplugged or disabled.
I have the latest firmware version (F506COM.BIN) downloaded from samsungodd. I have also downloaded the samsung flash utility, sfdnwin.exe. This utility is displaying a message box - "The Firmware is not compatible with the selected drive. Contact your system manufacturer for information on firmware updates available for this drive."
The drive information is displayed correctly by the samsung utilities. I have tried another samsung utility that displays the drive info. It displays the "Version Ex."(export!) as "DEL". The sfdnwin.exe is complaining because the Firmware I have downloaded is for the "COM" version - ref. the firmware file name above. I think!
So is there a dell utility that I can force the 'COM' version of the firmware onto the drive?

Did you search Dell. You can also look on Predator's site under firmware updates:

Hi Greenleep,
When supplying a non-Dell firmware, our current Moderator has requested us to add something along the following lines as a disclaimer:
"The use of a non validated Dell firmware will void the warranty on the drive"
Thanks..
