Hi John,

Thanks for the information. Company is changing out my desktop, a IBM 1.8GHz, with 512MB RAM, CD/RW and DVD-ROM drives, XP SP2, Office 2003 and I can pick it up for $120. So I may tinker with the software.

Best Regards!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

I got a new Dell Dimension E520 desk top last week, with XP Pro installed on it.

The CDr/DVDr drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N

I have burned data CDs with no problem.
I have burned audio CDs with no problem as long as the 2 second gaps between tracks is not a problem.

I have tried to burn gapless audio with both of the free applications mentioned above, as well as an installation from original disc of Nero Burning ROM v.5.

Not one of them seems to be able to burn audio without gaps. I used the same copy of Nero on my old PC and using the Disc-At-Once method it was simple to do this. Both of the above applications have the facility to burn using the same method, but when choosing Disc-At-Once in CDBurnerXP Pro it brought up an error stating the drive does not support this method, and DeepBurner would burn the disc but there would be gaps there anyway!!

Nero would not burn ANYTHING, audio, data or otherwise. It would bring up the burner dialogue, and the progress bar would complete in about a minute (much too quickly) but the CD would still be totally blank.

Windows Media Player doesn't even have the option so that's no help at all.

Having failed to use 3 well known applications to perform a standard task, I decided it must be a hardware problem. I spent half an hour on the phone to the Dell technical support team, and the only thing they were able to tell me was that it's not possible to burn audio without 2 second gaps. Useful info, considering I've done it thousands of times and it's a standard feature on most burning applications.

Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this? It's the way I normally burn audio CDs, since I record my own DJ mixes and need to split the tracks out so the CDs have index points but no gaps in the audio.

thanks!
