Getting a Blue Screen of Death when using DVD burner

I have been getting a BSOD when my DVD burner ejects a disk. The burner seems to write to the disk okay. I suspect it may be a problem with the Roxio Sonic Solution software that came with my system. When I used the software the other day to burn a CD I kept getting Mediahub.exe application errors. A little Internet research revealed that these errors were probably caused by a conflict with Windows Media Player 11. I rolled back to Media Player 10 and the application errors disappeared but I'm still getting the BSOD.

The BSOD message is ***STOP: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x806e494f, 0xf7a11c30, 0xf7a1192c)
Beginning dump of physical memory. Memory dump complete. Contact system administrator or technical support.

My system is a Dell Dimension E310, running XP Media Center Edition, 160G Hard drive, 1G Memory, a 13 in 1 Media Card Reader, a DVD ROM drive and a DVD Burner (Optiarc DVD +-RW ND-3570A.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Njc_aus,

Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 13-0, article 31 and see if this KB article on the Mediahub error will correct your problem.

If it does not, then the next step Roxio/Sonic support suggests is a clean uninstall/reinstall the software. I have their steps in the same Section 13-0, article 32.

Best Regards

Hi Predator,

Thanks so much for the post regarding my problem. I just have a couple of questions. The Roxio patch that you referred me to is supposed to resolve a conflict with MP 11. Since I've already rolled back to MP 10 can I still use the patch or do you think I should reinstall MP 11? I'd prefer to keep MP 10 if possible.

My other question concerns having to do a clean uninstall/reinstall. The Roxio software version is specifically built for Dell and already came installed on my system. I don't think I have the disks to do a reinstall. Is that something that you think I can get from Roxio or Dell?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Njc,

According to Moderator Patrick at Roxio/Sonic, the patch will work for WMP 9, 10, 11; or let me say is "suppose" to work.

If you do not have the disc for the reinstall, then I guess you might need to hold off my friend until you get the disc.

Here is Dell`s link to request the disc, honestly I would request all of my discs.
Request Backup discs

Best Regards

PS: another option I recall reading at Roxio/Sonic, consider updating the PXEngine, should be available from their site.

So I downloaded the patch you referred me to but am still having issues. I can burn a CD but when I try to make it compatible it runs the process but then crashes and gives me the BSOD. I ordered the progam disks from Dell as you suggested. Guess I'll have to wait till they show up to try the uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello Njc,

When you say make compatible, are you creating the disc with Sonic`s DLA program?
If so, sorry another patch, but Dell does have one for Sonic DLA from their Drivers & Downloads link

Best Regards

Hello Njc,

Since you do not have the discs yet, I am just basically grasping at straws my friend.
You could always jump over to Nero and give them a try, you can use it as a trail version for a limited time. This might give you idea if the problem is the drive or software. But again you might want to wait for Roxio/Sonic.
If you do try Nero, do not install their Packet Writer InCD.

Best Regards

Actually I was using the Sonic RecordNow program...not the drag and drop DLA but I'll look for the patch and install it to see if that helps.

Thanks again.

Hi Predator,

I installed the DLA update from the Dell web site and tried burning a disk. This time I DID NOT get the BSOD when the disk ejected. So maybe I'm finally good to go. Thanks again for all your help. I'll be sure to let you know if I encounter any further problems.
