HDD password, HDD power
Just tried setting the password for my HHD on my XPS M1210, it works fine. During the boot up if I do not put in the password and hit the enter key 3 times it will try to boot from the dvd or usb. My question is when I do boot from the usb, is there power to the internal HDD or is it off. I like to run other OS’s from my usb HHD and would like to have my internal HHD off.

There is always power to the internal drive.

Unless the operating system is set to spin down the drive and put the system to sleep or hibernate, yes.
