HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B

I am having trouble with my Dell Dimension 4550.  When I play Music CD's (store bought or other) the music is very choppy and distorted.  I am also unable to burn Music CD's.  I have had to throw away more than 10 CD's because of this problem. Need help please!!!Thanks

Hi Stallion,

I have been noticing a few posts latley dealing with this drive. Dell released a firmware update for the unit to address an issue with Mandrake but it does not state any more information. We have seen firmware updates correct issues not listed though.
I would suggest you verify that the drive has DMA enabled, Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 13, while there look at article 1 to clear up any driver issue.

You may wish to give Dell-Stephanie`s suggestion a shot if you have the Create SB Live:

Dell-Stephanie

*Right click on the "My Computer" icon

*Click on "Hardware" tab

*Click on "Device Manager"

*Double click on "Sound, video, and game controllers"

*Right click on the "Create SB Live!" and choose UNINSTALL

At this point, if your computer does not restart on its own, then restart your computer.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
