Hard Drive In PIO Mode

Question

A few weeks ago I bought a new PC, dimension 1100, and I installed an extra hard drive and a cdrom drive. Both are in PIO mode, so as a consequence playback of music and movies are stuttery especially from the hard drive. I've been to other forums and they've suggested clearing NVRAM running .VBS script, i've removed the IDE from hardware but it still hasn't changed. Any help from you guys would really help   Cheers

Is the CD-ROM drive Ultra-DMA capable? Many are not.

Are the HD and CD-ROM using the same IDE channel (same cable)? Try to disconnect the CD-ROM and check if the HD can use UDMA.

I've just had a look how its connected and the hard drives are on one IDE and the CD ROMs are on the other, so both the devices i installed are the slaves and PIO. The master HD and CD ROM are ultra DMA. I was told on another forum to check bios settings so at start up I pressed F2 to enter set up but I couldn't see anything about DMA or PIO, but then again I don't really know what I'm looking for.
