Help??! 1607 error message
Hey all ;
I'm hoping anyone can help. I'm tring to load a game "C&C Generals" and I have run through all the read me help and the EA help topics on this Error message "1607: Unable to install Install Shield Scripting Runtime".
The only thing I don't know how to do is get the latest drivers for my
CDRW/DVD Drive Model - "QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242".
Can anyone help? Should I just install off of what Dell gave me for my CDRW?DVD? Is there a place online that I can get the latest drivers? Any help would be great.
Thanks Landder

Hi Landder,
I found the following:
When attempting to start the installation, you receive the following error message:
"Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Engine"
or
"Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime"
Details During initialisation, the Windows Installer Engine attempts to install InstallShield Scripting Engine. When this fails, the error message number 1607 can occur.
InstallShield has presented a number of possible workarounds. The exact reason for the error is unknown and may be caused by any number of environment specific issues.
The articles presented in the Workaround focus on ensuring that your Windows Installer Service is installed properly, that the correct permissions are associated to this service and that the settings for your distributed COM servers are correct for the InstallShield Scripting Engine to be installed properly.
This error may be addressed by using the following knowledge base article supplied by InstallShield Consumer Central.
Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108340
Alternatively, there is a more technical approach to the above article found here:
ERRDOC: Run-Time Error 1607
http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?articleid=Q107070
Also, click on the CD/RW gif in my post and scroll to Section 100, article 66, an article from Microsoft on Games & Multi-media.
The drivers you mentioned are generic to your Operating system, if you think your problem is related to drivers, then use the article in Section 15, article of the same CD/RW link, to re-install them incase they somehow became corrupt.
Happy Holidays!
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Hey jeff;
Boy this is way over my head but I thank you for the time you took. I guess, I'm going to drop back and punt and get a friend to help with it. He works with computers and everything so he probably with be able to understand these instructions and feel confidant he won't damage a working system. I unfortunatly feel way over my head doing what it asks of me.
Thanks again Landder
