Help please: Could not perform Fixation

I have a Dimension 4500 WinXP home. The problem is with my cd burner NEC NR-7900A. I "think" I've got the latest firmware from Dell. From reading google some stated that Nero may be bad, I upgraded to a newer version. Some says the media, so I've tried three different brands and have made about 10 bad one's. I can't afford this. Anyone have a clue as what I can try next? I'm in a bind I have to get information off this one in the next few days. Thanks

We need the version of Nero you are using. Also please post what discs you're using (brand, speed, etc.). Make sure you are not using or have any other burning software installed, such as Roxio.

version of Nero is 6.6.0.15. I just put it on I had been using version 5 for years. Brand of CD's are what ever the store Staple's store brand is, And I also tried HP's both of these have speed of 48 and hold 700. I tried burning at 24 because that's what I always used, then tried several at 20. I don't have any other burning software.

A quick search for "Could not perform Fixation" indicates a hardware issue. Since you already have the latest firmware, updating can't help. I would try uninstalling then reinstalling and updating Nero. If you get the same error, then I'm afraid it's probably time to replace the drive.
