Help with Diagnostic Error messages?

I have a Dim 8400 and am having HDD problems.  It started with en error during boot.  (missing or corruptted system32 file -- isapnp.sys)  Tried to reinstall file and have no access to HDD (MAXTOR 160 GB SATA).  I ran the following tests on the Dell Diagnostic Disc and got these messages:   Read test fail:  0F00:0244 Verify test fail 0F00:1A44 Confidence Test fail: 0F00:1344 Seek test fail: 0F00:0244   I have also received a fail code 7 on another test.   I know it sounds like a bad HDD, but is there a way to get around the bad area and still use the drive?  Is freezing the drive worth trying?

never mind.  I did a search here and found what I needed.  I'll buy a new driveand pll off what I can from the failing one. phooey.
