Hitachi Hard Drive

Okay, here's my sad story. Went and got a new computer, it's awesome since the old one was a piece of garbage. Had all my files backed up via carbonite. My son showed me a way to take out the old hard drive (HDS721064CLA332) and hook it up as an external drive. I thought that was cool. Now, windows 7 and the refurbished Dell Optiplex 790 that I got won't recognize the old Hitachi hard drive. Seems I need a driver. Site after site wants me to pay for something that is actually on my hard drive. What can I do?

A number of possibilities:

Was the drive password protected in the old system?

Was the old system working correctly?

What type of new system did you purchase?

Did you mount the drive in an external case, or attach it internally?

Did you connect both the power and SATA cables to the drive?

Let's see if I can answer all of that The drive was password protected.  It was working properly. I presently have win7 professional 64 bit. The new computer is a Dell opti  plex 790. The hard drive is external through a hard drive SAT adapter to USB.

The password will need to be removed (though the system in which it was originally set) before it'll show up on a new system.

If that original system no longer functions, the drive will need to be sent to a data recovery service to have the password removed.
