Hitachi-LG Data Storage- DVD Writable/CD-RW, Error code 0F00:2871

DVD Writable/CD-RW Drive
Model: GWA-4164B
Optiplex 170L
After running the diagnostics test on the DVD/CD drive, I received an error code:
"0F00:2871
Optical Drive BIST-
Flash ROM test failed"
The reason for checking was because I've been having troubles with reading and writing to CD-RW's and DVD+RW's.
Are there any other tests I can run to verify that the Flash ROM is not operating properly? Is the nature of this problem involving hardware?
Any info. much appreciated.
