I like to first run Disc Cleanup ( Start . . Programs . . Accessories . . System Tools . . Disc Cleanup )  let it clean out temporary files and recycle bin . . Then run Defragmenter . . (same folder).

If it has been a long time since last defrag, I do it in Safe Mode and run it twice.

This program is built-in to all Windows versions since 95. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

Thanks for the info,

I have 1 questions. How do I run the defrag in safe mode?

  1. Turn on the computer
  2. Immediately begin tapping the key.
  3. Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the key
It may take a long time to run defrag if you have not done it previously. You may even want to start it before you go to bed.
