How to Partition an Inspiron with NTFS

I recently purchased an Inspiron 8600 (PentiumM 725 1.6A GHz,15.4in WSXGA+, Windows XP Home, and 40GB Hard Drive).
I would like to partition my hard drive into 2 parts: 1) 25 MB for OS and program files, and 2) 15 GB for personal files/documents.  This configuration will make it easier for backups of both partitions with Ghost 2003.
Since the hard drive comes standard with a single 40 GB NTFS partition, what is the best method to partition and reinstall the factory software?  I don’t have Partition Magic and I prefer not to buy it for this single use.
I want to create two partitions and reinstall the original software back onto the active partition.  Should I use Ghost to capture the original partition to CDR, then restore the original files on the smaller partition?  Would it be easier to use the system restore CD?

Thanks for your help.

if you planning to reinstall anyway, you can delete & repartition your hdd using the xp setup.

As bacillus said, you could use Fdisk to create the partitions. Be aware that you will lose all your current data on your hard drive. So backup anything that is important.

Fdisk will make FAT32 partitions, but your W-XP CD will convert them to NTFS if you wish.
