The EIDE is fully compatible and yes plug and play. Check the IDE cable and make sure it is a 80wire type which is recommneded for EIDE drives.

If you wanted to use an SATA drive you'd need an SATA pci slot adapter card. With your system I recommend staying with the EIDE. Performance will be essentially the same.

I am not sure what the max size is for HD in your model. What size you looking to get?

All the ide cables are 40 pin.

The standard ide cable has 40 wires. The 40 wire are a thicker wire...you can count the wires or just compare on line picuters of both types. The 80 wire has twice the amount of wires and they will look smaller in diameter.

If you buy a new cable they will say which type they are. Get the 80 wire as it is backward compatible anyway.

This link has a pic of both. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much slamx,

"80wire type"?

What will it look like or say?

"What size you looking to get?"

I'm blown away by the size of HDs these days.

I'm thinking something in the range of 500G, but I might be okay with going a little smaller (or bigger).
