Image mastering API problem
Everytime I log on to my XP account i get an error "image mastering API. has encountered a problem and needs to close" It also does this when I try to burn cds/dvds. I have tried updating the IMAPI file and it did update but I still get the error. I have contaced microsoft, roxio, and dell. And I just keep hearing "sir, im not sure what the problem is. Let me research this." Please hopefully someone here can help.

Welcome to the Dell Community Forums.
Did you try removing the imapi.exe file before loading the new version?
This could be a couple of things, a incompatibility between the file and some other software on the system, or malware. You may wish to run a scan with your anti-virus software to check on the latter possibility.
If it is an incompatibility, then check any recently added devices or software for updates. Also you may try removing it to see if the error goes away.

Unless you are trained in it's use, HijackThis can be more harmful than useful.
Did you download the imapi file from the Microsoft website, or from somewhere else?
You may wish to generate and post a log in the Software-HijackThis board, for research by one of the experts there. Many times trojans like to bring friends along.
