Inspiron e1705 Getting message don't know what to do

my computer is not ejecting my cd/dvd rom drive.  when i restarted my system, it gave me the following message:

I am recieving this error message before the BIOS is loaded up: "The Device in the system modular bay cannot be identified. It may not be completely inserted or may have some other problem. Please read and complete the following steps. 1. Press the device completely and firmly into the bay. 2. Press the ESC-key -- wait for the system to power down. 3. Press the power button to retry detecting the device."

I have looked up information and it tells me to reseat the device, however I'm not sure what to do.  I can't find an actual system manual for the computer on the internet and it says nothing about 'reseating the device'.
Please help.  I'm lost and am not sure what to do.

Thanks

Underneath the laptop take out the screw for the optical bay,now you will be able to slide the drive out.slide the drive back in and it should snap back in place,be care full and dont force it in to place.Put the screw back in and restart computer. Before you do this check and see if the screw is actually thier and in place,if it is not that might be your problem?

OK, I did that it is still giving me the same error message upon re-boot.
I'm just about sick to think that my less than 2 yr old computer isn't working

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

right next to the eject button is a pin size hole stick a paper clip in and the drive will eject

Ok, now I uninstalled the driver and it's not recognizing that i have one.  i'm guessing it is bad and i'll need to replace...am i correct?

scratch that....i rebooted my computer and it's now showing again, but i've got a sony cd/dvd rom drive and it's showing a "virtual" cd rom drive

It seems to have no power.  I get no lights on it upon restart etc.  it's just acting dead.

thanks in advance

I also have a Sony DVD/CD rewritable drive that was manufactured in May 2006.  It has gone out on me.  It does not recognize the media.  I tried to take it out and reinstall it to no avail.  I tried to replace it locally, but no one will touch Dell.  I had to order it through Dell, but they have no new replacement parts.  I had to purchase a refrubished one.  I feel like I am being forced to purchase someone elses problem!  Not real happy with my Inspiron E1705.  We used Dell computers when I was in the Army.  They were referred to as TMTF....  (too many too fast).  We had problems with our Dell computers there...  Everyone wanted the old HP computers.  They never failed and were faster!
