Installing OS on SSD

Hi, I am kinda new to here.

My problem is how to install SSD in alienware m17x??
And after installing SSD , how can i install windows 8 using USB drive??
I wont be copying anything from a new alienware. Just want to migrate Os from HDD to SSD?

Any other tips in migration??

Do i need to backup the drivers???

I am afraid to take further steps as this is my first time installing SSD .

One quick question , can i download windows 8 from microsoft using my product key??

Hi lavafx,

You may refer to the Service Manual of this system for instructions on replacing the hardware components. Please make sure that you follow the safety guidelines.

Also, you may refer to the link http://dell.to/16yfP5G for instructions on 'Windows 8 Upgrade and Installation'. You can download the Windows 8 from Microsoft MSDN account and install it. You can follow the instruction shared on the link http://dell.to/18MB1BN for installing the drivers in correct order. To download the drivers for your system click on the link http://dell.to/18NmI2D. Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system. You will have the drivers listed there.

Note: Please backup the data before performing the above mentioned steps as they lead to data loss.

While your informstion solves most of my problems,i dont know how to boot from SSD. Do i just put it in the free

Slot. And go to BIOS and change boot order?? Moreover, i have heard that i need to change it to ACHI or smth.

And how to delete the OS on hdd after installing os on ssd?

Hi lavafx,

Once you install the SSD on the system it will appear in BIOS. Please select it as first boot device in BIOS to boot from it. Install the Windows in SSD and boot from it, and then you can format the hard drive to remove the data and Windows from it

You will need to SATA Operations as AHCI and SATA AHCI Mode as Legacy AHCI in BIOS before you proceed Windows installation.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.
