A good habit, go to Device Manager, select the CD-ROM, click Uninstall or Remove (depends on OS), then shutdown. Yes set the jumper on the Plextor to CS, use Dell`s IDE cable and install in the Top Bay, "End" connection. DVD burner do tend to prefer the Master position, so this set-up should work fine, nice drive !

I just installed the Plextor and it's working perfectly. What a nice little toy!
Now the problem. I removed the CD-ROM and just used the same connections to install the Plextor as master.
I left the CD burner in the bottom bay. Now I can't see it in Device Manager or in My Computer. I tried to install new hardware but it's not being recognized. It had been working fine before, so my thought is I might have loosened a connection in that drive while removing the CD-ROM.
Before I unplug everything and open the case again, is there anything else I can try?
Just to make sure, you did set the jumper on the Sony to Cable Select, more than likely labled CS? I would open the case and check the connection, easy to loosen and not notice it.
