Invalid system disk

I tired restore a Inspiron 6000 using a drivers disk from a friend i think he has a gateway from 2001 I thought xp was all the same so i put in the disk and hit format hard drive after i got a "Invalid System Disk" error and tried the systmatic restore (ctrl+f11)
No hard drive is listed in Bios boot sqence and there doesnt seem to be a way around it with the proper disk it asks for.

Diagnostics says qoute [No Diagnostic Utility Partition found.   To run diagnostics insert your Dell "Drivers and Utilities" CD, then select OK to restart the system and boot off the CD]
The only Drivers and Utilities Disk i have say printer on the disk and i cant find such a disk.

You wiped the drive out. You'll need the Dell XP CD (call them for it if you don't have it) and then you'll need to do a manual installation.

If the BIOS doesn't see a hard drive at all, try reseating it. If it's still not found, you will have found the cause of the problem that led you to try the other restore disc in the first place - a hard drive that has failed.

Remove and reseat it. If it's not found, it wasn't that CD - it's a hardware failure.
