Yes, sir. I have exactly the same problem with the Lexmark 5150 all-in-one using a Dell Dimension 8200 with Windows XP Pro. I installed mine about a month ago and have been doing the long dance with Lexmark and wound up with the same advice as you - contact Dell - a configuration issue. What I did find was that it would handle the multipage scanning correctly if I was scanning to fax. This, of course, does not solve the OCR problem but it may shed light upon the source of it for a technician. Have not yet contacted Dell but wanted to search the notice board first.
Let's work on licking this as it seems to be a great machine, but this is a major hurdle.
You need to contact www.abbyy.com re their Sprint Fine Reader 5.0. You need to get from them the latest build which is 5.0.0.463. They were extremely helpful to me. I don't have a high speed connection and hence was unable to download it as an ftp so had to spend $9.95 for the shipping and handling of the CD. Still well worth the expense. If you have a high speed connection you might be able to manage with the download. It is unfortunate that it has taken so many months to get to the root of the problem but at last we are here. I will write to Dell and Lexmark so that hopefully their technical support people can put people on the right track. I hope this is of use to you and to anyone else struggling with the same problem.
Since you guys have a Lexmark 5150, I thought I would just post here. However I have a different "problem". It's really not a problem, just something I noticed. After installing the software for this printer/scanner, I noticed it took a while longer to restart or shutdown than normal. I was wondering if you have the same situation. Like I said, it's no big deal, but a bit annoying. I have disabled LexBce in msconfig on the services tab and this cured the problem, but then I noticed that NONE of my printers were installed. So I had to go back and re-enable it, and my printers came back.
I am using the Inspiron 5100. I also have this same problem on a Gateway PC.
Re your slow system after install of Lexmark 5150 -
If I recall correctly, I did notice something of a slowdown - more in terms of shutting down.
Something which helped me but is only for Win XP is BootVis. It is a free utility program produced by Microsoft. As I say, it is only for Win XP - you didn't mention what your operating system is.
If you do use it, one thing which is important is that you first create a folder called ptools in your C root drive. When you execute the BootVis program it will ask you where you want to set it up. It must be set up in the ptools folder.
And when you run it it will reboot several time - it's watching the process to see what's slowing down - each time that it reboots you must sign in under your user name.
Like I say, if you have WinXP look it up in Google and read about it first. It made a difference for me. Hope this helps.
Hey, thanks for the reply. Yes, I am using Windows XP (Pro). You stated to search in google. What would I type? There are so many ways to word this to type into google. Thanks again!!!
I went to the above site and it says that BootVis is temporarily unavailable. I assume that means that they're making some change to it. I would keep an eye on the site. I'm sure it will turn up soon.
I just finished installing the 5150. Everything works fine from hardware perspective. However, when I start the All-In-One center the application hangs with a window "Preparing Lexmark All-In-One Center for first use. Searching for scanning application. Please wait." The task manager shows a process called "lxbaaiox" using up above 95% of the cpu. I have left this process running for over 2 hours. Nothing happens.
I have contacted Lexmark support. They had me uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Still the same problem. I have Dimension XPS-B. I also have a 3com USB camera connected to another port. I have disconnected the camera and tried the applicaiton again but it still did not work.
Well, I installed this software on two different computers and never had any problems. Have you disabled your virus protection software before installing this software? Try uninstall everything for the printer, then disable the virus software, and then install the printer drivers. If that doesn't help, perhaps some other program is interfering with this. Let me know if disabling the virus protection software helps.
Note: You should always disable your virus protection software before installing anything. Usually these programs can cause problems during installation.

Go to this url:
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,109754,00.asp
It is the article where I first read about BootVis.
The place for downloading BootVis is:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/BootVisdwn.mspx
I went to the above site and it says that BootVis is temporarily unavailable. I assume that means that they're making some change to it. I would keep an eye on the site. I'm sure it will turn up soon.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your recommendation.
Here are the steps I just took:
1. Uninstalled Lexmark software.
2. Rebooted the computer.
3. Cancelled the automatic installation of software when the new devices were found.
4. Disabled NA.
5. Installed the software.
6. Launced All-in-one software.
Waited for about 15 minutes with the same results.
