Making Optiplex's bootable with a usb flash drive.

I'm using a Hawking Technology MyDrive 128 mb flash drive making it bootable with an HP utility and I'm trying to get it to boot to the flash drive on an Optiplex GX150.  In the boot sequence in the bios, it says atapi zip drive listed so I enable it and put as the first detected drive it won't boot and still goes to Windows XP first.  What am I doing wrong?

I don't think what you're seeing in the boot sequence is the thumb drive, sounds like you have a zip drive as well?  In order to access the USB drive at boot you'd have to make sure you have USB emulation enabled in the bios and then hit F12 at boot and then select the USB drive from the menu that comes up.

Edit: actually I don't know if that is even possible with your model....it may not have been supported until the gx260's or 270's.

I just found the answer:

Memory Key
  1. Insert the memory key into a USB port and restart the computer.

  2. When F12 Boot Menu appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, press .

The BIOS detects the device and adds the USB flash option to the boot menu.

  1. From the boot menu, select the number that appears next to the USB device.

The computer boots to the USB device.
