Max capacity for 2nd HDD in CD-Rom drive in Dell Inspiron N5010

For my Dell Inspiron N5010, I have a 256gb SSD as my primary drive and the stock 500gb HDD occupying the CD-ROM drive with a caddy.

My question is—is there a capacity limit for that HDD in the CD-ROM slot? Can I buy a 2-4tb HDD to replace the 500gb HDD in the caddy? Or, will the computer only recognize so much memory?

Running Windows 7 64-bit if that makes a difference.

Again, this is not for my primary hard drive slot. For my 2nd internal hard drive in CD drive slot.

Hi smgrams1988,

A 2TB drive should work without any problem. Larger than that, I can't say. Your controller is SATA 2 so any SATA 2 or 3 drive will work.

I don't think you're going to find anything over 2T that will fit (there aren't many 9.5 mm drives in that size or larger - most 2T and larger drives are 12.5 or 15 mm in height, which won't fit).

If you can find a 9.5 mm drive, it should work fine (no capacity issue).
