Maxtor Hard drive cannot boot to windows operating systems-HELP PLEASE!

:smileymad: After buying a Maxtor External hard drive USB 2.0, the people at Maxtor told me that I cannot boot to a windows system without the proper devices and drivers. What the heck does this mean? They also told me to go with Norton Ghost as a drive imaging program rather than Acronis 8.0 which I would rather buy. I am a beginner who is becoming more & more frustrated about simply backing up my frickin computer. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Thank you for your reply, but does this mean that I should return my external hard drive, even though I was going to purchase Acronis True Image 8.0 for making an image of my internal hard drive.

Thanks

They probably mean that you won't be able to boot from your external USB hard drive. In my opinion, Acronis True Image and Ghost are both good for making an image of your computer's hard drive as a backup, which you can store on your external hard drive, or on CD's or DVD's. The current version of Ghost is different from the previous versions and is similar to Acronis.

No. Acronis True Image shows you how to make a bootable recovery CD. If your computer has problems at some future time, you can boot using this CD(have your external hard drive plugged in). An Acronic screen will come up where you can access your external drive and your backup image that you stored on it. You can then restore from this backup image. I've never done the restore, but I did boot up using the recovery CD and checked that I could find my external USB hard drive and my backup image on it
