My computer doesn't recognize my CD-R/RW Drive anymore, PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!
My computer no longer recognizes my CD-RW/R Drive (D: ). Everytime I start my computer up, it says "Windows cannot find Secondary............Press F1 to continue......(I forgot the rest but it was something like that). When I go into My Computer the drive is not there. The last time this happened was when I bought the drive for the first time. I called Tech Support and they told me to go into Setup when I boot my computer, go to Secondary Disk Drive (or something like that) and choose AUTO. Now, that worked before, but now it doesn't. What should I do? Thanks...

Hi Souljah,
Click on the CD/RW gif in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3. This is from Microsoft on re-loading the Secondary IDE channel.
Also consider Section 11, article 2, "Clearing the NVRAM"; article 1 should be the one Dell Tech used to Restore Set-up Defaults in the BIOS.
Seasons Greetings !
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,

difference.

Hi Souljah,
In a nutshell, Clearing the NVRAM will / should force the system to re-detect the drives. Try it and then maybe article 1 again, the one the Dell Tech recommended.
Also may I ask, what Operating System are you using? If XP it may be the "Upper & Lower Filters" issue we have seen in the past. Section 100, article 31 of the same CD/RW link.
Best Regards

Thanks, tried clearing the NVRAM and restoring defaults, didn't work. Where do I go to gain access to Registry Editor. My comp says it's not allowed by my admin, but I'm admin. Where can I go to change the settings.

Hi souljah,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. To start the Registry Editor:
Start | Run, in the box type: Regedt32.exe
As to why you cannot log on as Admin, I cannot say for sure, double check you have the correct account running , Admin, Guest, User...
Best Regards

Thanks again.... My account type is Computer Administrator. I think the Upper/Lower filters may be my problem because I do remember deleting Easy CD Creator before this happened. I'm still trying to figure out how to access Registry Editor, though.

Glad to hear the news Souljah, my apologies for forgetting to mention the IDE cable, I try to make a habit of that but simply missed it.
Best Regards
