My computer will not recognize my flash drive or printer?

I own a dell studio 1558 running windows 7 64 bit. Today I inserted my sandisk cruzer glide flash drive in my usb port & my cpu will not recognize it or my plug & play hp printer. I am getting the following error message:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

I have tried uninstalling the universal serial bus controllers, tried downloading new software for the drivers from my cpu & checked the internet for updated driver software. I also ran the computer's own driver troubleshooting software. No luck at all. The flash drive is plug & play & came without any software. I have 2 yellow exclamation points in my device manager which tells me something is wrong but I can't seem to figure this one out.

I would really appreciate any help I can get with this problem as it is quite frustrating. Thank You in advance...

Hi,

What are the two ! marks? Can you post a screen capture in the forum..

If you have USB composite drive listed in device manager.. I suggest you to uninstall it from device manager and choose scan for hardware changes..

Step 2 - connect the USB drive, reboot and tap F12 on dell logo, check if the PC detects the cruzer drive..

Also check if the LED on the drive flashes once you connect.. How about other USB ports?

Sandisk has a KB - http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10/~/cruzer-flash-drive-not-detected-by-windows-pc

Step 3: Does it show in Disk Management (Right click on Computer >> Manage >> Disk Management) - if it appears in Disk Management, just assign a drive letter. Right click on the cruzer drive -- Drive letter --> Add --> choose a drive letter.. OK  OK.. Check if you can see the drive in my computer..

Step 4: If none of USB ports work..

- Install Dell system software -- http://downloads.dell.com/utility/DSS_UTIL_WIN_R260746.EXE

1. Install Chipset driver - http://downloads.dell.com/chipset/R242805.exe

2. Install IMEI - http://downloads.dell.com/chipset/R243176.exe

Reboot computer.. Check if the USB ports work...

Step 5 --- Update the BIOS [remove all devices connected to be laptop, Make sure your battery level is above 10%, connect the AC adapter and not to remove the power source until the procedure complete]

Do not interrupt the process else it would brick your system..

BIOS: http://downloads.dell.com/bios/R301434.exe  --

After you update the BIOS, reboot the system. Try to connect the cruzer..check if it works..
