NEC ND-3520A

Just ordered NEC DVD burner, looking for advice.  I currently have factory DVD ROM and CD burner.

I have done minimal upgrades in the past, any major obstacels here?

Should I replace the DVD ROM or the CD burner, as one or the other has to go.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi MS,

Hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, click on User Guides, then follow the links for your system. Browse the Section on Adding & Removing Parts. You can also click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 4, this covers jumper settings, drive placement , etc...
Due to some software / games not likely a DVD/RW, many believe due to the new Copy Protection scheme, I would keep the DVD-ROM and replace the CD/RW drive.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

You didn't say which OS, but I just added the NEC as my second optical drive.
My 4100 originally only came with a CD burner.

My system dual boots between the original Windows ME and a second hard drive which has Windows 2000. I use Windows 2000 to author and burn DVDs. No problems.

One thing though about this DVD burner, you may notice that while burning it will very briefly slow down 4 or 5 times. This apparently normal. Several people report this.

I have an 8200 running XP Home.

Take Jeff's advice. Keep the DVD-ROM drive. Your NEC will do fine burning CDs.
