Nec ND 3530A

I need to replace my Philips 8631 DVD burner.  I have read in this forum that the NEC 3450A has fewer poblems.  I just noticed a NEC ND 3530A a 16X+/- DVD RW under Dell Documentation.  Is anyone familiar with this model?  Is it similar to the 3450A.

Jake C,

Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.

These drives have similar but not identical specifications (generally the ND-3530A has faster max read/write speeds). You can find specification information on both of these drives at the following web addresses:

Hi,

I use an Optiplex GX280 as part of my job. It came with an NEC ND3530A drive. I noticed a lot of programs can only read DVD's using this drive at around 0.9x speed instead of the 16x (or 12x for DL) speeds advertised in its specifications. The current firmware is 1.02B. I looked for a firmware upgrade for this drive to increase the reading speed but could not find one on Dell's website. I did find a firmware for NEC ND3540A.

Are the two drives compatible? Is it possible to use the ND3540A firmware to flash the ND3530A drive??

Thanks,

@topperdude

They are not the same drives.  I flashed my drive with the 3.01 firmware I found here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Forum/tm.asp?m=106604  Just a warning though, stay away from the 3.23 firmware, it doesn't play nice with the dell bios.
