Galaxy 84GFE6DC2EMM GeForce 8400 GS Video Card should work fine in the Inspiron 531, but if you have the 531 Mini Tower, you need the full size video card, not the low profile version.

It would help if you post a link to the card.

Yep, the Galaxy 84GFE6DC2EMM GeForce 8400 GS Video Card - 512MB, DDR2, PCI-Express (x16), shown in your link should work just fine, with your Inspiron 531.

Hi

Welcome to Dell community,

The card that you have selected is PCI X16 which is avaliable on your Dell System too. So you should be able to install the card.

For future concerns around upgrades for your Dell system, you can visit www.support.dell.com > Home and Home Office > Parts and upgrades on the right side of the page.

If you have any queries please reply to the same post.

You could install a GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16, with the default 300w power supply.

I have been using same GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 in the Inspiron 530 and the 300w PSU, without any issues.

The GeForce GT 240 1GB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card, would also, be compatible

If you wish to install a more powerful video card, this would require the power supply to upgraded.
