OS reinstall doesn't recognize HDD

I have a Dimension 8400  With an 80GB Seagate SATA drive. I'm trying to upgrade to Win XP Pro. I used a Seagate installation disc to wipe the HDD, repartition and format to get rid of original OS. When I put in the XP Pro Installation disc, it says there isn't a HDD installed. Anyone got a clue?

Thanks,
Dan

If you are not using RAID, enter the system setup, scroll down to drives, press Enter or + to expand the drive menu then down to "SATA Operation", press Enter.

Change the SATA operation mode to "RAID Auto/ATA" press ESC to save and exit the BIOS.

Then XP should install without a problem.

Bev.

Thanks shesagordie,
I should have spent a few minutes looking at the next page in the forum for your answer there too.

This had me stumped, but the new install is working fine now.

Thanks again,
Dan

I had a similar problem with my 8400 when I added an IDE drive.
Works ok now, but is there anywhere a good explanation
of the options on the SATA Config page?? Like, when does
Combined (or something similar) apply??? Since I am not
running a RAID array, I naturally avoided any option that
started with RAID.

Sorry, but there does not seem to be explanation for the options.

Bev.

Ps. Maybe it's because I've not found one yet.
