PC restore problem..

Hey, first-time poster here. Was having problems with my system so decided to run the PC system restore (ctrl F11, etc.) Waited for the progress bar to hit 100% which it did. It then went to a black screen with the blue Dell bar across the top and then read: LOADING PBR FOR DESCRIPTOR 1...DONE And then LOADING DRMK VERSION 8.00.. It's been on there ever since I did this at 4:00 pm yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would turn the system off, make sure that all peripherals except the keyboard, mouse, and monitor were disconnected, and try again.  If it still refuses to work you may have a corrupted restore partition.

Your restore proceeded to completion, so it's not a corrupt DSR (restore) partition.  You have a corrupted Utility partition.

Your Dell ) three partitions:
  pbr1:  DellUtility
  pbr2:  XP
  pbr3:  DellRestore

Running Ctrl+F11 boots pbr3, which runs the utility that restores the backup image from partition-3 to partition-2.  When it finishes, it sets pbr1 as the boot partition, then reboots.  Pbr1 boots, displays the Dell EULA and service tag screens, sets pbr2 as the boot partition, then boots pbr2.  At every boot thereafter, pbr2 is the one that boots, and you never have to wade through the EULA and service tag screens again.

You've got a corrupted pbr1 for some reason, and that's where it's hanging.  (FTR, the operating system in pbr1 is DRMK 8.0).

The simple solution is to bypass pbr1 altogether and go straight to XP.  To do that:

1. Visit www.goodells.net/dellrestore/fixes.htm and download dsrfix.zip.  Extract the dsrfixcd.iso file and turn it into a bootable CD.

2. Insert the CD in the CD drive.  Reboot, and press F12 at the POST screen (the giant Dell logo).  At the one-time boot menu, select the choice to boot from CD.  The CD will boot and leave you at the A:> prompt.

3. At the A:> prompt, type "ptedit" and press [enter].  This launches the partition table editor.  (See sample illustrations at www.goodells.net/dellrestore/recover.htm).

4. In the table editor, you should see '80' in the Boot column for partition-1.  Change that to '00', and move the '80' to partition-2.  Click the [Save] button to save the changes.

5. Remove the CD and reboot.  This time, it should go straight to XP.
