Partition Magic 8 and Drive Image 2002 on Inspiron 2002
both crash while trying to load dos 'recovery' disks. The same disks work fine on my desktop.
Any clues please?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any help to offer on those 3rd party programs.

My Latitude C840 (Inspiron 8200 "clone") has worked fine using Acronis True Image (v6 and v7) as well as Norton Ghost (v7, v7.5, 2002, and 2003).
The only issue I have found so far is that Ghost versions higher than v7.0 have a problem booting with SCSI support to dump an image to my external DLT drive. All other features work great for me.
I also have Partition Magic v8.02 loaded on my system and it has not given me any probelms yet, so I am not sure what problems you are having (neither am I sure about what system you have).
