Performance issue with M4300 and SSD on XP

I am using 128GB OZC SSD in my Precision M4300 (Intel IHCM8M) running Windows XP.  I have looked for solutions here on the forum but none of them has worked.

The problem is that occationally the machine virtually freezes for up to 30 seconds, mostly when switching windows or during some context switching.  The HDD light is on the whole time.

I have checked the controller driver and I have two Primary IDE Channel entries in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers branch.  The upper one is in UDMA Mode 5, the lower one in Mode 2.  I can not see which one is associated with the SSD so I tried uninstalling the one in Mode 2 as reccomended in one place, but after restart it appeared the same.

AHCI has been disabled in the BIOS.  I have not seen any settings to disable it in Windows XP.

ATTO Disk Banchmark results in max write/read = 66/114 MBsek.

The pauses result in slower performance than using old HDD.  Is there someone with the solution for me?

I have the Samsung PM800 SSD with my Dell XPS Studio 16 and I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I have contacted dell support but from their point of view everything is fine. Though I can not really work on the computer as the read/writes are VERY SLOW.
