Pioneer DVD drive "not found" by BIOS
Hi Folks,
Please can anyone help with the following problem:
I have a DELL Dimension 9200 running WinXP (SP3)
The original DVD drive supplied by Dell, a TSST-H653A has gone faulty after many "power calibration" failures so I have replced it with a new Pioneer DVR-218L.
The problem is that when I boot up, the BIOS stops and says "Device on Port 2 not found". (Port 2 is the DVD drive).
Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup.
I go to the stup and all is OK. Port 2 is turned on.
When Windows loads it recognises the Drive and can read and write to it OK.
It looks as if the Bios only recognises the original drive.
How can I fix this please?

Hi Ford_Prefect2,
According to your manual, "Connect hard drives to the connectors labeled "SATA0" and "SATA1", starting with SATA0. Connect CD/DVD drives to the connectors labeled "SATA4" and "SATA5", starting with SATA4."
So try connecting the new drive to port 4.

Hi Osprey,
Many thanks for your quick response.
I have moved the DVD drive to port 4 and set the BIOS accordingly and all is now OK.
I assumed it would be OK on port 2 as that was where the original TSST drive was placed by DELL.
I wasn't adding an extra drive, just swapping out a failed one.

Good to hear. I'm not sure why the old drive was in port 2. But, hey, they're Dell! :emotion-4:
