Please insert a blank or rewritable cd
Everytime I try to burn a cd I get this message "Please insert a blank or rewritable cd".
I have tried Nero,Sonic & just drag files to the cd-rom but always the same f... message. Someone who can help me? Tried many different cd's.

Okay, how's this for a courteous poster? I have been trying to get through to Tech Support for 4 days now! I was told by the sales people that there is nothing anyone can do, we have to use the 800 number and sit on wait till someone comes - which they admit could be a long long long time.
They even suggested that I try to call at about 2AM.
The upshoot is that if you buy a Dell, pay for the warranty, and then something goes wrong, you are on your own.
Now, who's being courteous.

I am writing because I am having the exact same problem on the same system. I have gone through all of the steps described in this exchange and it still won't let me burn audio cds. I seem to be able to burn data cds but not audio.
Has anyone figured this out yet, or am I just plain sunk.
Thank you

Osprey - thank you for your words of advice.
As far as Dell Tech Support is concerned, if I had followed your email suggestion and had to go through in email what I had to go through once I finally did get through to the tech support people, I would be sending emails for the next 6 months. As it was, it took over an hour talking on the telephone. Emails are good for informational topics such as: Is my PC powerful enough to launch the space shuttle or what is the 800 number for Tech Support. For situations where there is a problem that first has to be identified then solved, there is nothing like the good old sound of a human voice. Dell is just trying to cut corners by not having enough staff or phone lines.

Anyway, here's how my problem was solved:
After running diagnostics on my PC and discovering that it was running properly, the final lady in Tech Support that I talked to had me go to Dell's site and download a file: R92814. I did, unzipped it, installed it, and guess what? My problems went away. My 8300 now will burn audio cds.
Best of luck to any of you who have this problem.
