Power DVD 5.0 Player Controls Keep Popping Up
Dimension 8400
Power DVD 5.0
I use my Dell 8400 CyberLink Power DVD to watch DVDs. The player controls open and close at will while I am viewing a DVD. I have not touched the mouse in fact I am at least six feet away from the mouse. This appears to be totally a random action. If I go to the menu and click resume or click on the video settings then resume most of the time the screen will fill to hide the playback controls. Not always.
I have updated using the online update. I have tried various configurations of setting to see if that would fix it. But I have had no luck.
Does anyone know what settings or update or whatever I need to take care of this little problem?
I bought a new wireless, optical Logitech mouse but I had the same problem when I was using the Dell mouse that came with the system
There is no "About Power DVD" button anywhere on any of the screens.
Thank you anyone who can figure this out. I am stumped.
Mary

I have not uninstalled PowerDVD and re-installed it. I have a CD from Dell "For Reinstalling CyberLink PowerDVD 5.3.1012 Software." Do you recommend that I go ahead and try uninstalling and re-install?
I did download one update which added Eagle Vision to PowerDVD but that did not change re the player controls problem.
Thanks,
Mary

Unless it is a poltergeist then there is nothing that would cause my mouse to move. I do not have air conditioning or any other speakers than my Altec Lansing cheapos. I usually use headphones when I view DVDs but the problem happened before I bought the headphones. I have a HEPA filter for dust particles but I put it in another room when using the DVD. I usually keep the windows closed when I watch a DVD.
I just downloaded a free DVD player, VLC 0.8.2 and it works just fine. Maybe I’ll just forget about PowerDVD since it seems to be nothing but trouble.
Thank you for your input but I don’t have any of the issues you suggest.

I neglected to say that once the player controls open they stay open until I manually go to resume or to the video settings, setting and re-setting. Then sometimes it will be ok, with the dvd completly filling the screen. Not always by a long shot.

Hi Mary,
Sometimes the Add / Remove, Uninstall / Install of the program does not completely remove all the neccessary files and one must try a "clean" approach.
Here is the instructions from PowerDVD Suuport:
PowerDVD
please follow the steps below to uninstall PowerDVD and then re-install it:
(a) Start --> Programs --> Cyberlink Power DVD (select to "uninstall"
it)
(b) Start --> Run (key in "regedit") --> HKEY_Current_User -->
Software --> Cyberlink --> delete "PowerDVD" & "PDVD" folders.
(c) Start --> Run (key in "regedit") --> HKEY_Local_Machine
--> Software --> Cyberlink --> delete "PowerDVD" & "PDVD" folders.
(d) Re-install PowerDVD
Also, please uninstall all the burning programs on your PC first, before
re-installing PowerDVD program to retry those steps above again.

Thank you for your input and instructions. But since I now have the VLC Media Player which works just fine I think it would just be too much fun to go through all that including uninstalling Sonic and Windows Media Player.
Should I get disenchanted with VLC I may try to re-install Power DVD. But frankly I don't see going through all that when all I want to do is view my NetFlix rentals. I was under the impression that the computer was meant to be a tool not a second job.

Mary,
Think of the computer as an adventure !!
When you made the second post, I was not sure if you still was interested in PowerDVD or not, so I added the post just in case
