PowerDVD error message - FFFFFFFF

I just installed a new graphics card - XFXGeforce fx 5500 (256 ram) - on my Dimension 8200 system to go with a new 2405fpw monitor, and though I finally got everything else to work at 1920 x 1200 (analog only - DVI is not supported above 1600 x 1200). my PowerDVD suddenly stopped working. Whenever I put a dvd in PowerDVD gives me an error message of error - FFFFFFF, Internal error code. According to the Readme file I have version 4.0, but when I tried to download a patch from Cyberlink for that version it told me I didn't have 4.0. Anyone know what the problem might be? It was working fine before I switched the original GeForce 2mx card for the 5500 and before I upgraded to Norton 2005 Internet Security. I am also having problems with other dvd software players in that they will play a dvd, but the color and resolution is washed out. Suggestions?

Hi Ptask,

Manyt times after updating a video driver, which in your case this included a new card, the DVD software needs to be re-installed.
PowerDVD did at one time have a support article on the FFFFF message but it seems now you must register at their support site to gain access or at least it seems that way to me.
Try a search ther on the message for additional information.

Best Regards

ptack:

Jeff is offline, but I'm not sure if I understand whether you think the problem is the monitor or the graphics adapter. You may want to post in the monitor forum. Frankly, I have found using an LCD for movies to be a mixed blessing. Great sharpness but poor color using the default settings. I've spent a lot of time playing with the color settings of my card (Ti4200) to get it just right.

Jeff,

Thanks. I did remove and reload PowerDVD and it now works, but the quality of the image is bad. It seems washed out. I see the same result using the Interactive player.
I'm using the latest (Jume 05) drivers from Nvidia. Any suggestions?

Thanks, but when I first got the 2405 I ran some DVDs and they looked good, in fact, Finding Nemo was amazing, my family was mesmorized it looked so good. That was using the orginal GeForce 2mx card and an analog connection. In an ideal world I should be able to get an even better picture using DVI, but after I installed the 5500 card all I got were problems though I can play games like Quake 3 at 1600x 1200 which the Geforce 2 couldn't handle. On the whole though, the 5500 card seems like a bad deal and Dell recommended it as the best card my system could take to support the 2405.

Did you completely uninstall the NVidia drivers when you swapped cards?
