Precision 490 - WinXP install and Hard drive not recognize - where driver?

I tried to install WinXP on new computer (with FreeDos). I get problem that hard drive not recognized. All tests from Diagnostics disk is OK.
I know that i need additional driver (press F6 when install), but where can i get it?
I explore Driver & Downloads page for Precision 490 and try drivers for:
  • SAS RAID Devices (PERC and SAS)
  • SCSI non-RAID Controllers (Adaptec 39320A)
  • Serial ATA (Intel Matrix) - some devices (what i need?)

What is correct driver?

Thanks!

Hi Andrew,

I just fought this problem for a week with a 490.  Tried to perform a fresh install of XP SP2 with the same issues.  Here is how I resolved the issue.

1.  If you are using a retail copy of WinXP SP2, you must download the Intel drivers for the SATA controller.  The ones you are looking for are as follows:

You will have to use F6 when launching the Windows Setup and use the following item from the list off the floppy:

Intel 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller

Then you should be ok.  Otherwise, follow option #2

2.  If you are using a Dell preloaded CD, make sure on the disc, the Dell 2006 is at the bottom!  If you are using a 2005 cd, then windows does NOT have the proper driver for this SATA controller, but it states that it does.

When I used the Dell 2006 Windows XP SP2 streamlined cd, I didn't have any issues at all with the OS trying to find the Mass Storage Device.

Hope this helps you out, as it took me a while to find out what was going on.

For those that have RAID use this option during the F6 at bootup.

- Intel 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller

Thanks for this post it really helped me :smileyvery-happy:
