Precision Dell 690 RAID0 Speed Too Slow

When I connect two 15k SAS 146GB drives in RAID0, I get a read speed of around 180MB/sec. If I connect 4 of these drives as RAID0, I get around 223MB/sec. It doesn't matter if I'm in WinXP or Win7, 32-Bit or 64-Bit or whether I update the driver on the RAID controller. It doesn't matter if I use Windows to create a software RAID0 - it always limits to the 223MB/sec. The RAID controller on the Dell 690 is a Dell SAS 5/iR Integrated Controller. Am I hitting some sort of limit of the controller?

Thanks

I get exactly the same result with 3 drives. So, the 4th drive is certainly playing no part or so it seems.

Thanks

I got the answer to this from Dell's Technical Support who were really excellent. It turns out the the max speed between the LSI 1068 Controller and the Hard Drives is 250MHz. That's just the limit of the LSI 1068 chip. So, when I get a read speed of 223MB/sec, I'm actually doing quite well! It's not going to go beyond that. The solution is to get a RAID card. A Dell Perc 6/i was recommended. I've been looking at others too e.g. those from Adaptec. Right now, I could probably live with it.
