Make sure Sonic DLA is not enabled. In fact, if you want to use Nero, you really should uninstall DLA.

Just a tip, topics such as "ink-shray" and the like are off-limits to this forum. You may want to refer to it in more obfuscated terms.

Finally, what media are you using? Brand, speed, format.

Thanks for the reply and hear what you are saying!

When you say "Make sure Sonic DLA is not enabled. In fact, if you want to use Nero, you really should uninstall DLA."

What is Sonic DLA? I right clicked the drive and it isn't checked. Sorry if I sound a bit dim here!

The CD's and DVD's I have tried are all ones I've used before with no trouble at all. For the record the Cd's I have used are, seedeez.com, Tuff Disk and e-performance . The DVD's are Datawrite DVD+R 16X and Bulkpaq DVD+R 8X.

The drive I have is a LG/Hitachi GWA4164B which looking at other forums seems to get some bad press! All I want to do is burn CD's and DVD's (for my own use!) using preferably Nero!

Check Add/Remove programs and make sure you do not have either Sonic DLA or Nero InCD installed. These are both packet writing programs that can cause conflicts.

I've done that, infact I've uninstalled anything to do with Sonic! I've just burned a DVD and everything seems fine (though it did burn a bit slow for a 16x drive).

Looking at the horror stories relating to the drive I was expecting the worst but as I say (touching wood) everything seems fine. I noticed on other postings people were having trouble with suitable blank DVD media. I've just used Datawrite 16X and that worked fine so if anyone is reading this!

Thanks for the help Osprey, it's good to know you aren't left high and dry when you have a problem!

Which Datawrite are you using? I have not used them but they seem to get mixed reviews.

I'm using the yellow 16X "classic" I've also just used a white 8X BulkPaq and a Maxell DVD-RW and they all worked fine! I've actually just ordered some 16X +R Maxell Disks. There should be an area on here or thread for people to post which disks have or haven't worked for them using the GWA4164B. It would make life a bit easier when buying disks!

Good quality discs work in any drive. I use www.videohelp.com to check feedback on media (the same place you go to find out how to use rink-shay).
