Problems with DVD-RW and CD
Hi, I have a Dell Dimension with windows xp. My CD player stopped working for no apparent reason. Under Device Manager, it says it's working properly. When I try to use it, the light stays on a few seconds, then it turns off, and it doesn't show the contents of the CD in Windows Explorer.
The Samsung CDE-Rom SC-148c works fine, but it won't let me copy anything to it. When I drag and drop a file or folder into it, I get an error message that says" windows encountered a problem when trying to copy to this folder".
For the CD player, I uninstalled the driver and let windows find it and reinstall it, but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Pili,
The Samsung 148c is a CD-ROM, read only device. Here is the Dell User Guide:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/49ctv/en/intro.htm
Just to try something, click on the cD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3. This will reload the IDE controller thus giving you clean/fresh drivers for it.
Best Regards

Hi Pili,
Unfortuantely Device Manager does not always get it right.
I cannot find any information on this drive from Dell, was this a Dell factory installed drive or one you installed? (Granted Dell may have not updated their list of drives)
Will the NEC 3520A read discs and the issues is only the burning process?
What software and media were you trying to use?
Best Regards!
