I have a question and would appreciate any help or links that would possibly answer my question...I have ordered a 2nd drive from dell and should be recieving it this week I want to use it as my slave drive...my orginal is a 30gb and the new one will be a 40gb....I looked thru my owner's manual and it states that I should move the original into bay 2 and new one into bay 1....it states the hard drive hooked up to the end will be the master and the one connected in the middle is the slave....also states jumper setting on new device to be set at cable select...it then states see documentation that came with drive..well since i dont have this i cant...my question I guess is this...once I install the latter drive as a slave drive I will need to format it...now the newb part do I need to install windows on it or am I better off copying windows off my hard drive and just paste it on it or is this even possible....I have a dimension 4550 running windows XP...I have a disk....then another question will i have to copy norton antivirus to new drive and ad-adware....or can i use these problems in tadem just by selecting the different drive...once again sorry for newb question I have never installed a 2nd hard drive into computer normally I just take old one out and put a bigger one in...thanx for any info or help

Windows does not get installed on the secondary drive. Nor do any other programs unless you are installing them on the secondary drive for capacity reasons. Usually a secondary drive is used for data and backup.
Your programs like AdAware and Norton will normally scan everything. You will have to check their settings to make sure they include the new drive once you install it and partition and format it with disk management which is built into XP.
Thanx Rick you seen to be able to solve an issue that tech couldnt figure out while beating around the bush....appreciate it hopefully this will work..:smileyvery-happy:

I suggest that you use Windows Disk Management to partition and format the new drive.
