Received Error Code 0F00:136C
While receiving mail, through Outlook, I plugged in a USB device and turned it on I have done this many times with out a problem, over the last year or so.
This time, I received a blue screen telling me that WIndows shut down to prevent further harm and gave me a string of Tech Support help
Stop: 0x00000624 (0x00190203, 0x82FA39C8, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)
I tried many ways of rebooting -- safe, CD support with Operating System restore, etc... -- finally using the Dell diagnostics program, during the Express Test, I received the Error Code 0f00:136C.
I saw, in the forum, that someone else had received the same message. They were told to reformat the hard drive. I had been told by Dell support, by telephone that the HD was at fault and that I needed to replace it.
BIOS recognizes the HD, but Windows says that there is no onboard HD. I would reformat, but the program does not recognize a HD. I also have photos that I have collected that I was preparing to save to CD, which are irreplaceable.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might save my data? Thanks in advance.

Bev and Ryan,
This message is just to close the thread. The stated error code message was due to not having a disk in the CD ROM drive when I ran the diagnostics.
The main problem, being the recovery of the data from the crashed hard drive, was resolved once I had replaced the drive and had the system up and running again. I placed the old hard drive in a USB HD enclosure. It did not immediately recognize the HD. I ran fixdisk /f and I recovered all the data.
Again, I thank you both for being there when it looked most dire.
Stan

Just to give more details about the error I get.
Dell Error Code 0F00 136C

It only means that there is no media [disc] present in optical drive. The test requires a data disc to be in the optical drives for the test.
You can request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to your system from here.

Thanks Bev for the help.
I have ordered the cds for the same.
But does that means that the error is only for not finding the cds, or does it related to any system problem?
or will I come to know the problem after testing it with cds?

The error messsage only relates, to Dell Diagnostics not finding a data disc in the optical drive.

The XP reinstallation disc cannot be downloaded, you could borrow the disc from a friend, but it must the same flavour, as the version of XP that was factory
installed, or you can buy a new retail copy of XP.
