Replaced HDD using Apricon ez upgrade

Hi, well a while ago I posted a thread regarding software to copy a HDD to make replacement easier. Omniswitch250 recommended Apricorn ez upgrade kit and I must say a large thanks !! At last a product that does what it says it does.

So if you need to swap out a HDD that still works I would recommend Apricorn EZ kit. You get the HDD enclosure which is small and neat, all cables and the software to clone the disc. Followed the instructions and it all went according to plan, took about 20 minutes all in ( meanwhile the old drive sounded more and more like a cement mixer !!! ) I have now installed the old drive in the external enclosure and will see what happens with a bit of an intensive workout with the diagnostic software dell supply. THe new Seagate is whisper quiet, thought at first it was not working.

I do have one problem though, which was not caused by the swap but seems to have been agrivated by it. I will post in the XP forum as well but on the off chance someone has seen this whilst upgrading here goes

About a month ago after updating on windows update site  I found that on booting the machine it went to a blue screen with 2 boxes, one said user name ( entered automatically as my logon) and password which was 2 asterixes, the other box said " unable to log you on as password incorrect. CLicking on the ok on this box sent me to the normal login screen with the little picture and my name beside it, clicking on this logged me in.

After the clone now it takes me to a blue windows screen and has a dialoge box saying " windows loading" but nothing happens, wait and wait to no avail. Do an alt tab and it show 2 login screens, switches to the previously mentioned screen and yet agin clicking on the OK for the failed login takes me to the normal screen.

Anbody seen this before ?? Should I do a re-install of XP, over the top to repair any damaged files ??

Ok I have managed to fix the software glitch, set up passwords for the user accounts on the computer and now it all works as advertised. Don't know why that happened but no big problem to type in a password !!
