Ricoh MP5240A Problem

I've installed a Ricoh MP5240A DVD+RW in my Dimension 4550 and I can't get it to write DVDs!!

It will burn a CD no problem using Nero 6 and will play DVD movies too.

When I burn a DVD+R (I'm trying to burn data to the disk) it goes all the way through and says the burn is successfull but when you try to read the DVD it displays a "Disk is not formatted" error message with the text "Windows cannot read from the disk.  The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows".

I have tried the newly burned DVD in 2 other different drives and it doesn't work.   Even the Ricoh drive that burned it won't read it.

Any ideas?

You may have incompatible DVD+R media. Ricoh recommends their own brand and it appears to be the only tested media, see here. Nero 6 appears to support this drive, it would seem to not be an issue, see here. Updating the firmware usually does improve media compatibility, however, does not always solve all problems. The latest available firmware can be located here. Carefully read and follow all instructions.
Before updating the firmware, please carefully read the instructions "Updating Method" and "Detail Explanation" . Ricoh will not take any responsibility for any problems encountered if the instructions were not properly followed.
