Roxio Basic Problems

I have a Roxio Easy CD Creator installed on my computer from Dell and itr has been anything but easy whether I am trying to copy a music CD or trying to do a compilation music CD.  I have tried to very specifically follow the instructions from the help menu at Roxio, but when I hit the record button, it will not complete the disc.  I usually only get one or two songs copied before the process stops, claiming the disc " finished and giving me the following error message, " 80041898 WRITE ERROR (03/OC/00)".

I have tried ininstalling and reinstalling the Roxio Program using Roxiozap and again using the Predator process in its entirety ( including deleting identified registry items) with no success.  I continue to get the same error message and ruined CDs.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 purchased in July 2003.  The CD writer came installed with the system and I believe it is a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A. The operating system is MS Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002.  I have not performed any maintenance on the operating system or hard drive..  The Roxio CD Creator provided by Dell is 5.3.4 Bais and I have upgraded through the Roxio Site to the only upgrade for basic, 5.3.5.  The only software that I have added is Kodak Easyshare for my photos.  I have been able to put photos on a cdr successfully several times including this week.  There have been some upgrades to that program since first installed, but I am not aware of any other system changes that would affect the cd burning process.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can't find anything about that error doing a search on google.  Usually I can get some kind of a hit on an error.   However, it suggests it detected a write error to the CD blank.

Several Questions.  What type of music Cd are you trying to create? a "standard" audio CD (e.g. from wav files and burning to a CDDA disc) or are you tring to create an MP3 CD?  What kind of CD blanks are you using?  CD-R or CD-RW?  (you should be using CD-R) and finally have you tried a different brand of CD-R?

I try to burn from CD to CD.  I do not try to create anything that is MP3. use only CD-Rs for music and have tried CD-Rs from two different Labels.

When you record CD to CD, are you using ROXIO Easy CD Creator "Disk Copier" or "Music CD Project"?
Try using "Music CD Project" and instead of burning directly to a CDR, create a hard drive image
(located under FILE).  Next, burn that Image file to a CDR and see if that works.

If you are making a "compilation" CD, you can't copy CD to CD directly.  You have to do as Skybird suggests, first copy ("rip") the audio from the CD's to the hard drive.  Once you have what you want on the hard drive then you can make an audio CD using the Roxio Music Project.

When you copy CD to CD direct, you can only copy the entire CD.  However, some newer CD's have copy protection on them and if you try to copy one that is copy protected you will get an error and the copy will fail.

I have been using Music Project rather than direct CD to CD copying.  Untill tonight I had not been saving the projects to the hard drive and copying from there.  Tonight I tried twice to burn a CD from pieces saved on the hard drive with no success.  The first time it copied two songs then "finished".  The second time I ask it not to finish so it did two songs and I received three erroror messages"

E80041898 write error (03/OC/00) ( I got this error on both attempts)

E80041899 write error buffer underrun occured (06/CS/00)

E80041925 trackwriter error-command retry failed.

Still no success!!!

I had a very similar problem, but using a different brand of drive and Roxio.  I fixed everything by downloading and installing the latest firmware for my drive. Have you tried that?

Based on your suggestion, I updated my firmware by installing and upgrading the latest version listed on the Dell site.  The resultes were the same.  I get the sam error messages as before.

I got an CD-rw on my Dell 4600 (Home Edition XP) and run Roxio's Easy CD 5. Pretty often I got problem when I burn VCD (Disk Copier): Error message says reading error, then ejects the new CD (wrote a lit bit, so, it is useless).

I am not sure what caused the problem, CD Burner or program (Roxio's Easy CD 5).

Thank you for help.
