SATA Disk - Read and Verify test failure

I have an old Dimesion 8300 which is giving me the Windows Blue Screen.

I have run the Dell diagnostics and had a Read Test failure OFOO: 0244 Block 33820364 - "Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected" and a Verify Test failure  OFOO:1A44 for the same block and with the same message.

The Confidence test, Device self test, Seek and SMART tests were all ok.

I suspect my hard drive is shot but is there something I can do to get around this error if it is just a single Block issue?

Hi Hugh2,

There are many, many different blue screen errors, most of which do not indicate a failing hard drive. Did you see those errors while testing the hard drive specifically?

Error code 0F0:0244 indicates a failing hard drive.

Backup any files and folders you wish to save to other media ASAP and replace the hard drive.

Hi Osprey

The blue screen came up when turning the computer on last week and I couldn't get past that point on restart. There was nothing to indicate problems prior to that. I'm afraid i didn't take note of the exact message it gave me at the time but from memory it was an unmountable disk error?  I then ran the Dell diagnostics disk and everything came up as passing tests except for the SATA disk errors mentioned.

I'm stuffed aren't I?

The hard drive is toast and needs to be replaced.

If you have a Dell warranty in effect, contact Dell's Technical Support for replacement drive.
