SSD Install
I bought this computer a couple days ago (Inspiron 3847). I tried to install an old/neverused Seagate 240 SSD. Norton Ghost wouldn't let me install . I tried Acronis2014 and get BSOD. Does anyone have a recommendation. I even tried fresh install, but Dell did not allow due to the size less then 931 gig. Thanks in advance!

Hi Energyjim,
What's the operating system? Do you have a Windows 8 disc or are you talking about your recovery discs?

Well as you've found, you can only recover to a drive at least as big as the original. So your only option is a clean install using the Windows 7 disc, which you can order here.
I've got a link below to a good Windows install guide you may consult if it would be helpful.

Greetings!
I just installed a 250Gb Samsung 840EVO into a brand new Inspiron 3847 last week. The Samsung came with data migration software that worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, it is proprietary and will not work on other brands of SSD. But the point is it can be done, and quite simply, with the right tool. Have you tried a free cloning software option like EaseUS Todo?

How would I clone the windows 7 HD that came with my 3847 (1 tb, with 37 gb on it) to a 240 GB SSD so
I can boot from the ssd?
